Short answer

A porcelain veneer costs about $1,425 per tooth on average, with a typical range of $930 to $2,440, in Pearl's ADA-based data; CareCredit's 2026 cost study puts the average at $1,455. Porcelain veneers cost

Porcelain veneers are thin lab-made shells bonded to the front of the teeth. The table above shows Pearl’s ADA-based average and CareCredit’s 2026 study, which agree within about $30 per tooth.[1][2] CareCredit’s earlier 2023 to 2024 study was higher, at $1,765.[3] Real Dental Costs reports Aspen Dental’s published porcelain veneer average as $1,359 per tooth, with a range of $990 to $2,169.[4]

Composite veneers cost

Composite veneers are made of tooth-colored resin, either sculpted in the chair in one visit or made in a lab; the office-made kind costs less, as the CareCredit 2026 figures in the table above show.[2] CareCredit’s 2023 to 2024 study listed higher averages of $872 for office-made and $1,373 for lab-made composite veneers.[3] Real Dental Costs puts chairside composite veneers (ADA code D2960) at $250 to $800 per tooth.[4]

Composite costs less up front but lasts about 5 to 7 years, against 10 to 15 years or more for porcelain.[4]

Full set of veneers cost

Veneers are billed per tooth, so the total depends on how many teeth you treat.[1] A full smile usually means six to eight upper front teeth. Beyond CareCredit’s 2026 figure in the table above, its 2023 to 2024 study averaged $15,486 for a full set[3], and Real Dental Costs gives $6,000 to $20,000, with a $12,000 average.[4]

Porcelain vs composite veneers: the difference

  • How it is made: porcelain veneers are made in a lab from impressions, and the dentist removes some enamel first.[6] Composite resin can be sculpted in the chair in one visit, with no impressions, or made in a lab.[2][6]
  • Lifespan: porcelain lasts 10 to 15 years or more, composite 5 to 7 years.[4]
  • Stains: porcelain is stain resistant.[6]
  • Cost: composite costs less per tooth up front, but over 15 years it often needs a replacement that porcelain does not.[4]

How long do veneers last on your teeth?

Cleveland Clinic says veneers last 10 to 15 years on average with proper care.[6] By material, Real Dental Costs puts porcelain at 10 to 15 years or more and composite at 5 to 7 years, so composite often needs at least one replacement over 15 years.[4]

Can I bite into an apple with veneers?

Not directly. Cleveland Clinic advises against biting straight into hard or crunchy foods such as apples, carrots and tough meats; cut them up and chew with your back teeth instead.[6] Porcelain resists stains, but it still helps to limit dark foods and drinks such as berries, red wine, coffee and tea.[6]

What are temporary veneers?

Temporary veneers are placeholders your dentist can put on the prepared teeth while the dental lab makes your permanent porcelain veneers.[6] Removable pop-on veneers are a different product: an appliance that snaps over the teeth, priced per arch in the table above.[4]

Veneers cost with insurance

Virtually all dental plans classify porcelain veneers as cosmetic and do not cover them. The exception is a veneer placed to repair a fractured tooth or failed restoration; then a plan may pay at the composite filling or crown rate, with clinical documentation.[1] HSA and FSA funds generally cannot pay for cosmetic veneers without a letter of medical necessity.[4]

Veneers cost by state

Pearl’s state averages for a porcelain veneer run from $1,240 in Oklahoma and $1,255 in Louisiana to $1,745 in New York and $1,805 in Hawaii.[1] Real Dental Costs reports observed averages from $1,242 in Maine to $2,359 in Vermont.[4]

Veneers vs crowns and bonding

  • Bonding: resin applied to the tooth in one visit. CareCredit’s average is $431 per tooth.[3] Pearl says veneers cost 3 to 5 times as much as bonding but are far more durable and stain resistant.[1]
  • Crown: covers the whole tooth. Pearl’s national average for a crown is $1,560, and insurance often pays 50% when the crown is medically necessary.[5] See dental crown cost.

How to pay less for veneers

  1. Treat fewer teeth. Veneers are priced per tooth, so a single chipped tooth costs a fraction of a full set.[1]
  2. Ask about composite or bonding. Chairside composite veneers run $250 to $800 per tooth.[4]
  3. Get more than one quote. Pearl notes veneer fees vary significantly by market and dentist.[1]
  4. Check a dental savings plan. Real Dental Costs says many dental savings plans list a 10% to 25% reduction on porcelain veneers at participating dentists.[4] See how dental discount plans work and Care Anytime’s dental discount benefit.
